The Federal Trade Commission will conduct the government antitrust review of Google Inc.'s proposed $3.1 billion purchase of Internet advertising-services company DoubleClick Inc., according to the Wall Street Journal.
Microsoft, AT&T Inc., Time Warner Inc. and several other large Internet and media companies had said last month that they planned to encourage antitrust regulators to closely scrutinize the deal.
"We are confident that upon further review the FTC will conclude that this acquisition poses no risk to competition and should be approved," Google said in a statement.
